Blue Cruise Story.
The famous Turkish writer and storyteller Cevat Sakir wrote the book the Fisherman of Halicarnassus. He was admired as an intellectual and he began to research the cultural history of Bodrum. Cevat Sakir(1890-1973), loved the sea and was the founder of the famous Mavi Yolculuk-Blue Voyages which are also known as the Blue Cruise.
The Fisherman of Halicarnassus
This adventure began with a simple sponge diving boat. Friends would dive at depths of 100 to 200 feet, looking for natural sponges known as Porifera. These divers only used one breathe before scuba equipment was invented and would make their way to the bottom of the sea. They sailed in traditional Turkish boats called gulets, these excursions were known as "Blue Voyages or the Blue cruise''. As tourism began to grow, Bodrum was put on the international Map.
